Investment Promotion Tour to China
June 14-21, 2006

On June 13th AISA brought a delegation of 14 businessmen to China with H.E. President Karzai who was to attend the Shanghai Regional Summit. While the President stayed in Shanghai the business delegation continued to Beijing where a full programme of day conferences, company visits and business-to-business networking opportunities were arranged for them by AISA in cooperation with China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT). The interest from the Chinese side was overwhelming and partnerships between Chinese and Afghan businessmen were forged and business deals prepared.

China Trip
The Afghan Business Delegation at The CCPIT-AISA Business Seminar where H.E. President Karzai gave a keynote speech

On June 19th a conference was held for the Afghan business delegation and their Chinese counterparts at the CCPIT with a keynote speech by H.E. President Karzai. This followed right after a speech by Dr. Zakhilwal, CEO and President of AISA, which emphasised the traditionally strong trade links between China and Afghanistan. The conference was rounded of with a very energetic networking session and a fruitful working lunch. In the evening at the official state banquet for H.E. President Karzai and H.E. President Hu Jintao, Dr. Zakhilwal, on behalf of AISA, signed an Agreement of Cooperation with CCPIT. The main aims of this agreement are to promote Chinese investment in Afghanistan and furthering the development of bilateral economic and trade relations between the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan and the People’s Republic of China.

AISA is attaching great hopes to the agreement signed with the CCPIT. Not only because of the vast potential China represents to Afghan business men and Afghan businesses inside Afghanistan looking for investors but also because of the keen interest and enthusiasm we were met with all through our trip. We therefore expect to receive a delegation of Chinese businessmen before the end of the year, a continued and even stronger presence of Chinese companies in Afghanistan as well as to exchange expertise with the CCPIT which has offered their assistance in capacity building within AISA.
