Turkey Investment Promotion Road show
10-13 July

Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) organized Afghan Pavilion at the 27th India International Trade Fair (IITF) drawing a large score of visitors watch and purchase a variety of fascinating items displayed there by the Afghan businesses.

According to the Indian media, Afghan stalls are proving a major draw as they have various items to woo visitors. They say the Afghan items range from beautifully-woven carpets, dry fruits, honey, and medicinal herbs to precious stones, jewelry, garments and accessories.

Dr Omar Zakhilwal, President of AISA, who inaugurated the Afghan Pavilion, says, “Of all the events we have organized, this has so far been the best.” Dr Zakhilwal adds that he is pleasantly surprised how much attention the Afghan products are getting at the exhibition.”

An Afghan businessman, Nazir Ahmad says, “Afghanistan is on the move and this is the proof of progress. This is perhaps the first time Afghanistan is having such a big stall in India. About 40 companies are participating in the field of handicrafts, dry fruits, fresh fruits, all kinds of Afghanistan products."

Director of Afghanistan Investment Support Agency (AISA) Investment Promotion Department, Walid Tamim, says, “To see so many people standing in lines to buy Afghan dried and fresh fruits explains that Afghan agri-products still have a very significant place in Indian markets.”

The U.S. Agency for International Development’s Afghanistan Small and Medium Enterprise Development (ASMED) project partnered with AISA to facilitate the participation of 40 Afghan companies to attend the fair.

In addition to the exhibition, AISA with sponsorship from ASMED will co-organize a matchmaking event on November 21st called “Doing Business in Afghanistan” with the Federation of Indian Chamber of Commerce and Industries (FICCI).

Mr Tamim says, “ The conference on “doing business in Afghanistan” will provide unique opportunities for both Indian-Afghan businesses to increase the scale of their businesses that in consequence will result a remarkable increase in Afghan economy growth.”
